Avoiding The Tilt At Poker Strategy

A player would do "tilt" if he felt far from normal, I say far from normal because he was driven by feeling or emotion due to the game's circumstances.

Instead of sticking with the usual game plan, he tilts and he does something that in any given circumstances he would not normally do. He begins to do over-aggressive betting and remains in the betting longer than he should. Oftentimes he loses self-control and discipline.

For some reason one might wonder why a poker player goes tilt?

The main reason is the overwhelming amount of feelings poured down to a player that had just suffered and experienced a very bad loss, for him this is his cue to go on tilt. A very bad loss is when the player expects to win with his good hand and then out of the blue he just loses, in other words this is a case of "bad beat".

The bad beat caused one player a massive rush of feelings and emotions that oftentimes he cannot control, especially by an average and inexperienced person. For some reason, our great emotions are more powerful than the power of logic and reasoning, in the long process these emotions win the struggle of thought procedures.

In the player's mind he sees all his reserved patient strategy of poker that he used to create a stack of chips has drifted away in a blink of an eye. The player's response could be to recover everything that he has lost.

The brain would tell the player to win back everything as quickly as possible and this result in playing hands that he does not normally play. His brain would also force him to call bets and fold more often than he should.

Can he avoid tilt? In a sense of the word yes, tilt can be avoided. It will require the player to have discipline and the capability to stick to his usual plan. The player should create an emergency exit just in case he can't avoid going tilt.

Avoiding tilt is not just merely pausing for a few minutes, gathering of thoughts and counting to ten. This will simply not work with a player that is full of emotions.

To avoid tilt there is only one way. Get yourself as far as you can get from the poker table as much as possible. If you are playing poker online, press "Sit Out" get up and walk away from the computer. And if you are playing at a casino, the same procedure, stand up, turn your back and walk away.

You may go back to playing poker again if you feel that you have your old self back with the right state of mind. Always remember, it's no one's fault that you lose, sometimes it happens.
